ESL Handbook

This is a short handbook (24 pages) providing lots of useful information on ELLs for beginning teachers (discovered by one of my classmates).  This can easily be printed and used in the classroom or for PDs as well!

Here's a sneak-peek at the topics covered:

-Who are English Language Learners?
-What does legislation say about educating and assessing ELLs?
-The Politics of Language
-What patterns does English language development typically follow?
-What are common program models for ESL education?
-What does the ESL specialist need from me?
-How can I support ELLs in my classroom?
-Classroom environment
-Knowing and including each student
-Using appropriate speech
-Opportunities for interaction
-Developing literacy skills
-Language in the content areas
-Learning strategies
-Assessment
